last purple rain canning session - complete!
this one is a seasonal, so we'll bring it back again next summer. but for 2018, that's a wrap.
it'll still be available for a few weeks, but get your hands on it while you can!
why barrel age a beer?
an already great beer can be taken to a whole new level by aging it in a barrel. at BNA we have both wine and whiskey barrels, which can each impart some of the leftover characteristics from the spirits they previously held.
but the deep layers of flavour, aroma, and body come from the wood itself and can bring elements of things like smoke, vanilla, caramel, and even florals to a beer. allowing the beer to age also tends to mellow out any harshness from a fresh brew, while upping the level of the sweet, earthy tones. a lot depends on the temperature at which you age a beer, the length of time for which you age it, and of course the beer and the barrel themselves.
so far, we've barrel aged 'tennessee' and 'cordova,' with plans to do more. it's kind of like wrapping your own presents and then waiting foreverrrr to open them. kind of.

thank-you @digest.life for this lovely photo of our beloved three letters.
we hear many [colourful] guesses as to what BNA stands for, but the truth is simple - it's a nod to the heritage of our building, originally constructed for the british north american tobacco company [bnatc].
this beet & quinoa dish is so much more than a salad.
dehydrated root vegetables, fresh local beets and arugula, toasted pumpkin seeds, super yummy tahini kale chips, and our famous cider emulsion.
it's vegan, it's gluten-free, but mostly it's de-fricken-licious!
also, beer can definitely be paired with salad, and this one goes great with our saison - pamela. earthy notes from the dish and the beer complement each other oh so nicely, and the peppery element of the rye malt matches that of the arugula. a winning combination, if you ask us!
we are now one month away from @denimonthediamond and we're getting pretty damn excited for this one-of-a-kind party.
@mitchcarefoot and @dangercat87 have been busy planing a pretty epic event for kelowna.
if you thought this was just for country fans, you thought wrong - the music will be varied, there will be so many amazing local food and drink vendors [tap photo to see who], and games like bocce, spike ball, and cornhole will be available to play. oh, plus it's all happening on a baseball diamond, because, why not? [the legendary king stadium, no less]
if you don't yet have your tickets, hit up denimonthediamond.com
you know those fancy can-topper things that keep our 6-packs together? we can re-use them!
we'd love for you to bring by any of yours once you're done with them. just stop by the tasting room to drop 'em off!
we're so happy to lend our space to @youngshrubb and @mandaxuereb for their important event.
funds raised will go directly to vulnerable and marginalized members of our community [via the two sisters helping their mother to settle in her new home and navigate "the system," as well as a portion to @cmhakelowna to assist them in the amazing work they already do]
ways to be involved: shop! attend the event on sunday, august the 5th and make some purchases. donate! clothes, small furniture, etc. that you're able to pass along to be sold. OR prizing if you're an artist or business that has something to contribute to the raffle. [dm @youngshrubb for pick-up/drop-off deets]

if you don't already know that @publicliquor is the best spot in town to buy craft beer, small-batch spirits, and okanagan wine, today is the day to go find out.
kenny will be there pouring tasters from 2-5pm and we'll buy a six-pack for the first person who finds him and mentions this post!
exciting news - with the completion of this shiny little number [elevator inside], all of BNA is now wheelchair accessible! we're so happy to finally be able to welcome all guests to the second floor for beers, bocce, and bowling.
if you need to access the elevator, please advise any of our staff and we will happily unlock it for you.
